Covid-19  Frequently Asked Questions

August 5th 2020

Do I need any additional documentation?

Yes.  Within 48  hours of your departure flight you must fill in a health form which you can access on https://www.spth.gob.es/create.  On the form, the villa address to use is:

Casa Providencia  26, Las Vistas  Guime  35559  Lanzarote

Completion of this will generate a QR code which you must bring with you, either as a printout or on your phone.  Tip: Re-type all fields, do not use auto-fill.

Within 48 hours of your return flight you must fill in another form to enter the UK, which you can access from https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk.  Again, you may have to re-type all fields, and not use auto-fill.

What can I expect at the airport?

Exact arrangements may differ, but you can expect to have to wear a mask as soon as you arrive, whilst you await boarding, during your flight and until you leave Arricife once you have landed.  Social Distancing of 1.5m must be maintained.  Before you depart Arricife and after passport control the authorities will have inspected your QR code and checked your temperature.

Is there a problem on the Island?

At a total since the pandemic started of 107, of the seven Canary Islands, Lanzarote has had the least number of Covid-19 cases other than La Gomera and El Hierro (which together had 11).  At the time of writing there are 10 cases on the island, all in isolation (none in hospital), and 5 of whom are understood to be illegal immigrants from Morocco.

What are the rules for masks etc.?

These change all the time as the situation unfolds.  Assume, for the moment that you will have to wear a mask whenever you are not either in your car (if you hire one) or at the villa.  Social Distancing of 1.5m must be maintained.  In restaurants, you should wear your mask except when actually eating.  Use handwash at every premises that you enter, it should be provided for you.

What about whilst we are in the villa?

For your peace of mind, the villa will have a thorough clean and will be sprayed with disinfectant that is effective against Covid 19 prior to your arrival. Nobody can enter for 3 hours after the treatment, so for those people who booked pre Covid 19, who may be on a same day changeover, it has become necessary for you to have a late check-in time of 6pm to be safe. We have followed advice to remove the majority of the books, CDs, DVDs, ornaments and other items that are difficult to clean.  We are sorry that this reduces the “Home from home” feeling that we aimed to offer, but your health is more important!  There are a limited number of games, books, CDs and DVDs in the cupboard in the lounge, which you may use, but AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Otherwise, do as you would at home (e.g. handwashing).

What happens if I develop Covid-19 symptoms during my stay?

The Government of the Canary Islands has signed an insurance policy by which it has become the first Spanish community that guarantees tourists that they will have all expenses covered derived from a coronavirus incident for 30 days, i.e. repatriation, medical expenses and their stay in quarantine on the island.  The protection of tourists through this insurance is effective from the beginning of August and will initially be valid for 12 months, excluding the circumstances known before the start of the trip and under the conditions set by the policy.  If you do develop symptoms contact the hospital immediately (00 34 928 59 50 00) and put everyone else in your party into self-isolation.
